An extract made from the leaves, stem, and/or roots of the black cohosh plant.

Cimicifuga racemosa extract is also known as black bugbane, fairy candle, black snakeroot, or by its species name, actae racemosa. It may act as a mild pain reliever, and it has some anti-inflammatory properties. It is also thought to relieve some of the symptoms of menopause.

As a lubricant ingredient, black cohosh is thought to be fairly safe. There is no conclusive evidence of any adverse effects of cimicifuga racemosa extract usage. However, no long-term safety studies have been performed; some possible side effects include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and constipation, but side effects typically occur when the extract is taken orally. Additionally, these purported side effects may occur due to the other plants included in popular cimicifuga racemosa herbal supplements.
