An emollient found in various cosmetics. It is popularly used as a skin repairing and moisturizing agent.

Panthenol has anti-inflammatory effects and can help the body repair broken or damaged skin. It is very well tolerated, and because emollients moisturize the skin and add elasticity, panthenol may also prevent some damage when applied shortly before sex. Some lubricant formulas use this ingredient for this reason.

Panthenol is also known as butanamide, dexpanthenolum, and by several other chemical names.
