Bees Wax (Cera Alba)

Naturally produced by honeybees, cera alba is a waxy substance commonly used in lubricants and cosmetics to add texture. Beeswax has a shiny gloss, and after it has been bleached and purified, it is considered a safe ingredient. However, some people are allergic to beeswax and related ingredients. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include mild itching and irritation.

Beeswax can enhance the moisturizing properties of personal lubricants and massage creams by creating a water-insoluble barrier on the surface of the skin.

Bacteria

A large domain of microorganisms, potentially consisting of millions of different species.

Bacteria can affect human life in positive or negative ways. Some bacteria cause sexually transmitted infections (STIs); common examples include chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Other strands of bacteria play a beneficial role in regulating the pH levels of the vagina, which helps to limit the incidence of yeast infections and other conditions.

Many lubricants include ingredients that prevent or limit bacterial growth. This allows for a long shelf life and ensures that the lube is safe for internal use. To prevent bacterial STIs, you should always use condoms when having penetrative sex.

Benzalkonium Chloride

Benzalkonium Chloride is a disinfectant used for its spermicidal qualities. Like many over-the-counter spermicides, benzalkonium chloride (often referred to as ADBAC) affects the surface tension of liquids. This prevents sperm from moving freely, greatly reducing the chances of conception.

While benzalkonium chloride is a safe ingredient, it can cause adverse reactions in some users. It is commonly used in spermicidal creams, sometimes in conjunction with nonoxynol-9. In sexual lubricants, it is often used as a preservative rather than as a spermicide. ADBAC is also found in pharmaceuticals, cleaning agents and other household products

BDSM

BDSM stands for Bondage Dominism and Sadomasichism.

Benzocaine

Benzocaine is a white odorless and tasteless ester of para-aminobenzoate. This is a very popular and highly effective topical numbing agent used across many industries including medical and dental.  Benzocaine is used in many anal lubricants, male prolonging products, and other topical solutions as a numbing agent or anesthetic.  It is generally safe to ingest Benzocaine in small doses.  Some deep throat numbing sprays use Benzocaine to numb the throat thus avoiding any gag reflexes.

DID YOU KNOW?

Holy Basil / Ocimum Basilicum

A species of basil that grows in tropical areas. Holy basil has a stronger scent than sweet basil and other common versions of the herb, and there is some evidence that it is an effective anti-inflammatory. Holy basil also appears to act as a painkiller, and the essential oil of the plant may have heart-protective qualities.

Holy basil is safe, but like all basil species, it can cause mild irritation for users with skin sensitivities. People with blood clotting disorders should check with their physicians before using lubricants and massage oils with this ingredient.
